April 2- Businessmen Ayhan Sahenk lost his life. Businessman Dinc Bilgin was arrested under Etibank case. Insurance company Allianz merged with DresdnerBank. Fitch Ibca downgraded Turkey`s borrowing rating.

April 3- State Minister Kemal Dervis and Transportation and Communications Minister Enis Oksuz held a meeting to discuss privatization of Turkish Telekom. Oksuz announced that they had reached an agreement. Vural Akisik was appointed as the Chairman of the State Banks Joint Executive Board.

April 4- At a meeting which was closed to press, Dervis said he supposed 1 U.S. dollar would be 1 million 100 thousand TL until the end of April. While demonstrations of workers and tradesmen spread, Sugar Law was adopted by the parliament.

April 7- Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said that decisions which would relieve tradesmen would be taken.

April 9- The Council of Ministers announced the package aimed to relieve tradesmen. It decided to enable tradesmen to pay their tax debts in installments. Halkbank`s loan interest rates were reduced to 55 percent. Payment of Social Security Authority (SSK) and Social Security Agency for the Self-Employed (Bag-Kur) premiums was facilitated. Decision on opening of supermarkets outside city-centers was taken. Press organs reported that Central Bank Governor Gazi Ercel had exchanged his money with foreign currency before adoption of floating currency regime.

April 10- TUSIAD requested for a revision in the government while the Association of Turkish Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) called on the government to resign.

April 11- Demonstrations of tradesmen in Ankara caused serious events while holding of such demonstrations was banned for 6 months. The law which enables the opportunity of giving special domestic borrowing bonds to the state banks and SDIF-controlled banks to meet their duty losses and the Economic Social Council Law were adopted. Businessman Demir Sabanci topped the list of highest income tax payers with 2.6 quadrillion TL.

April 12- Former central bank governor Gazi Ercel donated the 31 billion TL he had earned from exchange of his money with foreign exchange begore floating currency regime, to an association.

April 13- DHL company started a campaign on ``Buy Goods From Turkey``.

As a result of price increases after floating currency regime, price of 1 liter of gasoline reached 1 million TL.

-ECONOMIC PROGRAMME ANNOUNCED-

April 14- Programme for Transition Into Powerful Economy was announced. Halk Bankasi Director General Yenal Ansen was removed from office.

April 16- Markets extended support to the programme. U.S. dollar decreased to 1 million 170 thousand TL and national index increased.

April 18- The law which lifts the state monopoly over natural gas was adopted.

April 19- World Bank President James Wolfensohn sent a letter expressing his support to the programme.

April 20- Ford Otosan`s facilities in Golcuk were opened.

April 21- Businessman Cavit Caglar was extradited to Turkey.

April 24- Speaking at the Parliamentary Planning and Budget Commission, State Minister Dervis announced that he was expecting an external source of nearly 15.3 billion U.S. dollars and that Emlakbank would be closed down.

April 25- The law which grants the Central Bank autonomous structure was approved by the parliament.

April 27- In an atmosphere during which the indictment about the investigation into energy corruption was being discussed, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Cumhur Ersumer resigned. National index increased sharply and foreign exchange rates decreased. Standard and Poor`s took Turkey out of the negative outlook.

April 28- Cavit Caglar was put into Kartal prison in Istanbul.
