Supervisor - Outbound Transportation

Anatolia Tile & Stone is a leading importer and distributor of ceramic and stone tile and is a major supplier to some of the largest distributors throughout the United States and Canada. Based in Toronto, Anatolia is a privately owned 100% Canadian corporation that is growing rapidly. Currently we are looking for eager, motivated Supervisor- Outbound Transportation to join our growing team.

POSITION SCOPE: 
 
The Supervisor - Outbound Transportation is responsible is responsible for finding solutions, alternative modes and carriers and negotiating best rates possible for outbound Canada and the US. They are expected to build and maintain relationships with various transportation companies and will work closely with Customer Service, Warehousing Operations and the Senior Manager - Transportation. The Supervisor – Outbound Transportation will lead the scheduling team to ensure that all outbound shipment process will be executed on time providing highest level of customer service.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

  • Acts as backup to Senior Manager – Transportation with managing the scheduling team and other transportation specialists
  • Manages scheduling team for scheduling prepaid/collect, TL/LTL, outbound and return shipments within Canada and to/from the U.S.
  • Sources new freight companies to expand Anatolia’s carrier network and receive quotes for rate comparisons
  • Calculates of export, long and short-term freight costs for existing and new customers
  • Negotiates pricing and terms and manages carrier score cards appropriately to maximize efficiency and optimize costs
  • Constantly seeks options to reduce transportation costs (carriers/modes/dates/live unloads/equipment type, etc.)
  • Manages LTL and FTL contracts
  • Ensures that Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable freight rates are maintained in SAP 
  • Works with carriers on charge backs and solidify approval to do so
  • Makes decisions on routing to maximize efficiency and capacity utilization
  • Manages delivery issues such as no shows, delays to minimize risks
  • Organizes special ad-hoc shipments cost effectively by collecting bids from different carriers to get the best price at the highest          service level
  • Works closely with Operations and Supply Chain Department to achieve timely, effective delivery
  • Develops and reports on carrier scorecards; monitor carrier performance and implement necessary corrective actions to improve        services towards higher case fill rate
  • Reports expected and actual arrival dates to management
  • Measures and improves logistics processes to deliver supply chain KPI targets On-Time Delivery %, cost, carrier performance, etc.)
  • Assists AP team to determine billing differences from ocean/truckload carriers  
  • Disputes detention charges for truckload shipments as necessary
  • Responsible for suggesting ideas/tools/improvements for logistics procedures 
  • Ensures established logistics processes are being met for domestic and export shipments
  • Assists with special projects and perform other duties as assigned       
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Post-secondary education required in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of prior experience with progressive responsibilities from within a similar industry     
  • Prior experience in a fast paced logistics type of environment with experience 
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgement and allocate work effort and time accordingly relative to the scale of the task and impact on the business
  • Advanced proficiency in SAP required 
  • Team oriented, quick learner, with strong leadership skills
  • Ability to work autonomously, with accuracy and effective execution and with little direction
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency and demonstrated ability to solve varying and occasionally complex problems 
  • Proficient with database systems (Excel) is a must.                                      
  • Previous exposure to an ERP/WMS system required, SAP will be considered an asset.                              
  • High attention to detail, results oriented, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a brand ambassador, performing duties in alignment with corporate values while balancing the needs of both the customer, the business and employees
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence for enhanced performance and conflict resolution 
   This position also requires:

  • Interactions with internal or external customers or suppliers employing professional common courtesy, providing requisite and correct information along with straightforward support                   
  • Demonstrated experience and ability working with moderately complex information as related to analysis, problem solving, and reasoning to perform job duties with effectiveness                                                          
  • Demonstrated accountability for quality, accuracy and adherence to work instructions - moderate amount of decision making required when performing duties while interpreting and applying rules and guidelines          
  • Demonstrated capability to provide guidance of limited complexity to other staff as needed in relation to the execution of job duties and assigned projects                              
  • Demonstrated understanding that work contributions have some influence beyond the immediate department and organization and as such duties are executed with care, accuracy and compliance to instructions 
  • Demonstrated ability to apply creative problem solving and idea generation to work tasks as occasionally required
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and with common courtesy towards other departments, customers or suppliers while maintaining confidentiality.                                                   
  • Capability to deliver a consistently high level of customer service to internal or external customers is required, discovering and comprehending their needs and providing efficient and effective support
  • Understanding that work efforts and interaction with external parties may have a moderate impact on the employer brand and public reputation and as such ensure that behaviour and communications shall be professional and accurate at all times             
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with peers within a work area and other departments      
WORKING CONDITIONS:               
                                                                                                                                      
  • Most work is performed in a standard office environment with limited exposure to adverse conditions or health and safety risks                           
  • Position requires low level of sustained visual attention, moderate manual dexterity on a regular basis with sitting at length
